ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL

A meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council wae held last night, the Mayor, Mr. J. Park, presiding. Tennis Courts.—The caretaker ie to be in attendance at the tennie court* at l<) a.m., except on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, when lie ehall open the court* at 9 a.m. Singles players are to be charged id per half hour for the use of the courts. Cemetery Plot*.—The chairman of the reserves committee reported that a suitable area had been agreed upon, consisting: of 14 plots in the Hillsboro' Cemetery allocated to the Sirstcre of Mercy. A further area containing 42 plots had also been selected. The price of the whole of these was fixed at £3 10/. Sinking Fund Commissioner*.—Mr. A. A. Coatee wa« appointed to be one of the council's linking fund c-oininitwionere, rendered necessary by the death of Mr. R. X. Moody, a former commissioner. Mixing Yard.—The cemetery committee will vieit Auckland cemeteries to inspect their mixing yards, with a view to adopting the same system at Hilkboro' Cemetery. Tendeis. — The council accepted the tender of 5/ per ton received from McCarten Broe. for the cartage of cement from Auckland. Royal Oak Traffic—Acting on the recommendation of a sub-committee, the council decided to discontinue the seryitee or a traffic officer at the Royal Oak intersection. The service has been in operation between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. dailv for some months, but in the opinion o"f the rsub-committee it is no onger required. Camping Regulations. — The medical ofheer of health forwarded a copy of camping ground regulations and aeked the council to apply to have the borough gazetted for the purposes of regulations, lhe matter wae referred to the reserves committee. Milk Council. —The council agreed to support the candidature of Meeere. I. J. Goldstine and H. F. W. Meikle, the sitting members, to represent local bodies on the Metropolitan Milk Council. Old Lime Kiln.—The medical officer of health advised that it was doubtful if legal action could be taken to require the old lime kiln to be removed from Cameron Street. The owner is to be asked to remove the building. Warrant of Fitneee. — The council decided to avail itself of the right to issue warrants of fitness in ite own garagee for ite own vehicles only. Road Races —A request by the Northern Amateur Cycle Club to conduct road races over a course in the borough was granted. Request Declined.—The council did not entertain a request for financial assistance towards the coet of dispatching a New Zealand medical unit to assist the Spanish people. Neither would it allow a street collection.
