The long distance yacht raceljeld annually for the BalokoVic Cup by the Akarana lacht Club started at 7.30 p.m. on Friday and finished late on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a win for Ngahau, a wellknown 40foot keel yacht built over 40 years ago by the late Mr. R. Logan, .sen,, at North Shore, for Mr. Bolt, of Whaugarei, and tiow owned by Mr. W. Burns, of Epsom, w bicli finished 6111 4.»s inside her time allowance from the scratch vacht, Messrs. \\ instone Bros." Nga Toa.

Ihe course was from off the clubhouse. Campbell's Point, round Canoe Rock, theuce round Channel Islet off Cape Colville, thence round the Cow Island off the entrance to Coromandel, finishing at Matiatia Bay, \\ aiheke, a distance of 1)4 nautical miles.

The handicaps were: —Nga Toa scr. Windward lh loui. Rambler lb 24m, Tawhirl 111 31m. Roiaata lh 06111, lona lh ;>7ui, Silver Cloud 2b 20m, Ngahau 2h Mai, Tainui 2h s<^|u.

The wind was light southerly at the start and several of the yachts had a little difficulty in reaching the starting line, lona, last year's winner, being Shu 10s and Silver Cloud 2111 2us late in crossing the line. Roiaata was first away, a few lengths ahead of Rambler, followed by Tawhiri, Nga Toa, Windward, Ngahau, Tainui, Silver Cloud and lona in that order.

The wind remained light for the run out to Canoe Rock, after which It gradually freshened, veering to east-south-east, a head wind for the long leg from the Rock to Channel Islet, off Colville and down the Coromauttel coast to the Cow Island at the entrance to Coromandel Harbour. The lest of the course was off the wind to tiie finishing line at the entrauce to Matiatia Bay 011 the north western end of Waiheke.

On the run down to Canoe Rock Ngahau set two spinuakers and a water sail in addition to he:- usual canvas and did well, but the wind was light and Canoe Rock was not rounded by the leading boats until midnight. From here it was a long beat to Channel Islet, and the wind gradually freshened, going ahead. The Channel Islet was rounded by Nga Toa at 6.10 a.m.. when the wind again fell light for tbe lead down the Coromandel coast to the Cow Island, which Nga Toa rounded about 10 a.lll. From here she came through Ruthe's Island passage and the inside of Waiheke to Matiatia. and was well ahead of the fleet at this stage of the race. She was winning easily, but the wind fell again and the other yachts held a better breeze on the outside of Waiheke. The finish was: Nga Toa 3h 57m 255, Rambler 6h 18m 325, Ngahau 611 20m 40s, Tainui 7h 7m 40s. Windward, Tawhiri, Roiaata, Silver Cloud and lona retired. Result: Ngahau 1. Nga Toa 2, Tainui 3. The finishing times were taken .at Matiatia by Mr. T. MeKnight, from Mr. R. I). Neal's auxiliary yacht Reliance. Race to Matiatia.—This race started at 2-20 p.m. on Saturday, the course being from off the clubhouse, round the outside of Rangitoto and Motutapu, thence round Motulhi finishing at Matiatia. The entries and handicaps were: Altair scr, Janet 11m, Peri 16m, Valdora 19m, Dorothy 22m, Maybelle 26m, and Owhanga 32m. Altair, Janet and Valdora did not start. Maybelle was first away and led to North Head, with Peri a good second, followed by Dorothy and Owhanga. The finish was: Peri Jh 23m 50s, Owhanga 7h 39m, Maybelle 39m 30s. Result: Owhanga 1, Peri 2, Maybelle 3.
