Decision for Standardising Transmission. BAIRD INTERESTS SUFFER. (Received 12 noon.) LOXDOX, February 5. The technical standardisation of the reports, means that there will he no further transmissions by the Baird system from Alexandra l'lilacc, and that the Marconi-F.mi system alone will be employed. Mr. J. L." Baird, the inventor, told the "News Chronicle" that his experiments were not affected by the decision, which was taken in the interests of economy. Baird shares have fallen and Emi shares have risen sharply. Baird Television, Limited, later issued a statement that it had been assured the decision does not mean the setting up of a monopolistic situation. It cannot he too strongly emphasised, the statement said, that'the adoption of a single standard docs not mean the adoption of a particular system. The decision in no way .diminishes the commercial prospects or limits the trading policy of.the company, which

is continuing to work in large-screen cinema television, and military and other non-entertainment aspects. An earlier British official wireless message stated that as the result of experience gained of television transmission, the" Television Advisory Committee recommended that a set of technical standards ha adopted for public transmissions from the London station. This recommendation has been approved by the Postmaster-General, Mr. G. C. Provision for the adoption of the following standards has been made: — Number of lines for each picture, 405; interlaced number of frames a second, 50; ratio nf synchronisation of impulse to picture, ::0 'to 70. These standards will not he substantested before the end of 1938 and in all future transmissions will he known as "London Television Standards."
