FOR HIGHER WAGES.
Sydney Waterfront Engineers
On Strike.
20 P.O. RISE DEMANDED.
SYDNEY, February 4. Waterfront engineers, at a mass meeting to-day, decided to strike for higher wages. They are demanding a 20 per cent all-round increase, a 10 per cent increase in casual rates and an adjustment of overtime rates. Four hundred engineers are involved at present. It is likely that 500 metal workers will be drawn into the dispute. The chief firms affected are the Cockatoo Dock, Morts Dock, Adelaide Steamship Company, smaller coastal shipping companies, Burns, Philp and a few private concerns.
