A MOTOR PROSECUTION.

In view of the publicity which the police, Bench and Press have combined in giving to my name, I desire the public of Auckland to know the facts. On December ]."> last, late at night, while I was in company with two of my friends and was in a state of absolute sobriety, my motor car was. involved in a very light collision with a taxi cab in the city. A police constable demanded my name. I told him '"Brown." He disbelieved me. and I added "H. S.. of lianfurlv Koad. Epsom." My two companions verify this. The constable still disbelieved me. In pursuance of his disbelief the constable boarded the car to accompany me. and. as lie afterwards told the Court, to verify my name and address. I drove him to a sergeant in Xewniarket and asked him if he wished to speak to the sergeant. He said he would. I stopped, and 011 the sergeant's request again gave my name and address. Another constable coining up at the moment actually heard me telling the sergeant my name and address, and told tlie Court so. The magistrate, the moment my statement differed from that of the unbelieving constable (who swore I refused my name and address, even though lie accompanied me in the car to check the address given him), declined to believe me or my friend Mr. Bruce Thomson I (a passenger in the car), and lined me £4 for reckless driving and £"> for refusing my name and address. Despite Con-table Wise and Mr. Wyvern Wilson. S.M., I gave the Court the whole truth and nothing but- the truth, and any imputation to the contrary and any reflection on mv sobrietv is utterly baseless. HARVEY ST. CLAIR BROWN".
