P.W.D. AND WET TIME.

LOSSES OF THE MEN.

(To the Editor.)

Replying to Mr. Knight, I would remind him that Mr. Semple has said that the P.WJ). is the best paid body of men in the with the best conditions. I wish to challenge that statement. It can l>e proved that the men on the Waitakere Drive failed to "ot a full week's work for a period of three months Consequently little more than sustenance was earned for long periods owing to wet weather. It is true that the IWV.D. lias a basic wa<*e of 16/ per day. But that may moan anything. I remember two years ago at Te Kaw'a that 110 work was done for two weeks owiu«- to wet weather. Men had to receive so many hours' working time so they could pay their board. What is needed on tlie P.W.D. is a basic weekly wage, and then Mr. Semple mar be somewhere near the mark when he tells the world that the P.W.D. is all he claims it to be. BOWYAXG.
