TRAGIC WRECK.
LOSS OF SCOW RANGI
VERDICT AT INQUEST.
What he termed as the "obvious verdict" of death by drowning, was returned by Mr. O. R. Orr Walker, S.M.. yesterday afternoon in the Magistrate's Court, at the inquest on the four victims of the Rangi wreck. The victims were:— The master, Captain Peter Petersen, aged 54, married, of 4, Greenfield Avenue, Epsom. An A.8., Harold Helgeson, aged 34, single, of 104, Nelson Street. Charles De Faire, cook, aged 64, single, who had no relatives in New Zealand. William Douglas Robinson, aged 21, labourer, single, of William Street, Waihi. Sergeant C. C. Dunford, of Devonport, appeared for the police. In returning a verdict of death by drowning, the coroner paid a tribute to the work of the police and the residents of Torbay for their part in the tragedy, and in the search for the bodies. The thanks of the public were due to them, he said.
