ATHLETICS.

OTAHUHU V. THAMES.

BIRTWISTLE'S GOOD unT.T!,

HOME TEAM WINS BY 11 POINTS.

Last evening's inter-clnb contest between Otahuhu and Thames, staged at Sturges Park, was an outstanding success and attracted a big gallery of spectators. The meeting of Trevor Blocklev Otahuhu's speedy sprinter, and Matt. Baker, the Goldfields crack, was spoilt to a certain extent by the liberality of the starter. Without detracting from Baker's success in any way. when two top notchers meet the gaining of a yard or two at the start by one sets the other man an almost impossible task. Baker got all the best of the starts in the 100 yards, 220 yards and senior relay. Birtwistle put up a line performance to cut six seconds off the Sturges Park mile record of 4.40, standing to the credit of Jack Valder. The mile walk saw Roger Cameron give one of his best performances on the local track, winning from Neville McCarthy by a good margin. Clever changing of the baton gave the Otahuhu ladies an easy win over the visitors. The result of the points competition gave a win to Otahuhu by 50 points to 39.
