PLUNKET COMMITTEE.
NORTHCOTE STARTS NEW YEAR.
[ The vice-president, Mrs.W. E. Carter, occupied the chair' last night at the first meeting since the Christmas vacation of the Northcote Plunket committee. The clerical duties were undertaken by Mesdames D. H. Opperman and W. F." Ward, in the absence of the secretary, Mrs. J. VV. Lethbridge, on holiday at Oneroa. Deep appreciation was conveyed in a letter from the president, Mrs. Archie Campbell, for the Christmas gift from the members of a beautiful white and red casket, acompanied by seasonable good wishes. A message conveying Christmas greetings was received from Dr. Barrett Clayton and Mrs. Clayton, from Victoria, British Columbia.
Thanks were recorded to the voluntary drivers for continuing duty during the holiday season. Two cars each day were required to transport the nurse on her visits to homes throughout the district. Voluntary transport was provided by Mesdames J: F. Porter (of Granity), V. E. Heath, H. McDonald, R. Martin, N. J. Campbell, F. E. Cox, B. L. Brown, E. Chambers and Misses Myrtle Lepper and Bettina Edwards. The nnrse, Miss Joan Carmichael, was thanked for using her car in the Christmas and New Year week, thus relieving the volunteers for those days. .
Appreciation was expressed for the hospitality extended by Mesdames A. Campbell, W. E. Carter and N. E. Heath to the nurse during the emergency period of the health, restrictions. In recognition of benefits received, members agreed to give their sen-ices for Auckland headquarters on Plunket Day.
The president, Mrs. A. Campbell, who had just returned that evening from a holiday at Kawau Island, arrived before the meeting terminated, and extended good wishes to the committee for a successful year of useful activity.
