"BIG BROADCAST" FOR REGENT
The world's outstanding exponents of "swing music" clash with one of America's best known symphony orchestras in the Recent Theatre's next attraction, "The Big Broadcast of 1937," which, following in the footsteps of "The Big Broadcast for 1936," promises to be the outstanding film of its type for the year. Benny Goodman and his orchestra will uphold the "swing" side and Leopold Stokowski, internationally famous conductor, will lead his orchestra in a number of pieces which he considers will be enjoyed by the audiences who see "The Big Broadcast of 1937." The resulting clash of types should prove amusing—and interesting.
The music, however, is only incidental to an elaborate programme headed by Jack Benny and including George Burns and Gracie Allen, Bob Burns, Martha Raye, Shirley Ross, Ray Milland, Frank Forest, Benny Fields, Eleanore Whitney, Larry Adler and many others. Gracie Allen comes to the screen as the sponsor of a radio programme who has her own ideas on what constitutes a good broadcast. Despite the efforts of husband George and studio director Benny to straighten her out, she puts her idea across. One of the things she does is to put Stan Kavanagh, the famous comic juggler, who never says a word, on her programme.
