GARBO'S ILLNESS.

APPARENT RECOVERY. SERIOUS FORM OF ANAEMIA. AT WORK OX "CAMILLE." j Alarming rumours about the health ; of Greta Garbo are causing concern in \ Hollywood, according to the well-known correspondent Sheilali Graham. It is widely believed that the actress is suffering from anaemia,! states Miss Graham. My inquiries show that Greta Garbo has a very serious form of anaemia, but it is fortunately not pernicious. She has been in a nursing home in Santa Barbara, California, where she has been treated under an assumed name. She is better, and is already back at work on her picture, "Camiile," upon which Irving Thalberg was busy at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios at the time of his death. A Changed Woman. A curious change has come over her since her return. She has. shed much of her shyness, her aloofness. The old icy formality has thawed. At the studio she recently ran a short race against her leading man, Robert Taylor. When, chivalrously, lie let her win, she was delighted. A constant companion now is the writer Salka Viertel, with whom she discusses the stories she may produce on the screen. The psychological change in the Garbo since her illness in hospital is mirrored in her clothes. The drab and invariable greys and blacks that she wore outside the studio are giving place to colour. Blues and greens are making their appearance in her costume. Despite the improvement in her health many feel that she will not be strong enough to make another picture, but will retire when "Camiile" is finished. She will then return to Sweden to live in the 1000-acre estate she has recently bought. Garbo is in her thirties.
