M.G.M. COMPANY.
THALBERG'S HOLDINGS. PURCHASE IN BRITAIN. New evidence of the intention of M.G.M.—probably the world's largest film combine—to produce films in England is behind the news that the holdings of the late Irving Thalberg in Loew's incorporated (the company controlling M.G.M.) have been purchased by a British bank syndicate. The amount is said to be £400,000. The sets on which M.G.M. will probably produce their British films are those at the Amalgamated Studios, Elstree. An interesting fact arose from the publication of Irving Thalberg's will. Most of the money which Miss Norma Shearer inherited from her husband is invested in M.G.M. As her retirement from films would adversely effect the value of the stock in the market, it is considered probable that she will continue her screen career indefinitely. The latest production schedules include two Shearer pictures—"Pride and Prejudice" and "Marie Antoinette."
