One hundred women and children and an aged ir.in were trampled underfoot when a mad elephant stampeded among 20,000 devotees at a Buddhist festival. °

BRUSSELS, January 27. A crisis has developed in the Cabinet, there being a possibility that the Socialist leader, M. Vandervelde, will resign owing to differences with his colleagues, notably regarding Spain.

Mrs. Elmer Fwiek gave birth to a baby boy weighing 181b. This is one of the largest babies ever born. Mother and child are doing well.
