VICTORI' BEATS N.B.W. BIEVERS TOP-SCORE WITH 76. SYDNEY, January 26. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match at Sydney against New South Wales, Victoria in its second innings scored 340 (Hassett 68, Sievers 76). Cheetham took three wickets for 43 runs, Hynes two for 80 and White two for 58.

At the close of play New South Wales, which made 305 in the first innings, had lost two wickets for 129 in its second turn nt the wickets (Cheetham 62, Beattie 35). O'Brien and Gregory each took a wicket. Victoria won on the first innings by 32 runs. M. W. Sievers. dropped from the fourth Test team, took five wickets for 57 in New South Wales first innings.

The cricket match between England and South Australia was abandoned at 2.25 p.m. to-day owing to rain, and the fact that the ground was still waterlogged. Play was poss : ble only on the first two days of the match and the scores were: England 301. South Australia four wickets down for 194.

The wicket tor the Test match to be begun on Friday is damp, but it is not expected to affect the pitch at the start of the game.
