TAKANINI TOPICS.

HIGH QUALITY'S CONDITION. PROGRESS OF NUN NICER. Gay Talkie has been pleasing in recent track work and seems to have completely recovered from his soreness. The Guy Shield colt has some excellent efforts to his credit, and as he promises to be in good order for the Takapuna meeting he should add interest to the Cup contest. If all goes well Gay Talkie should win a good handicap before the season closes.

Thangilamba is again among the regular workers, and has returned in very solid condition. She is already displaying dash in her allotted tasks, and it should not be long before she is again found .sporting silk.

Cap Up has been causing his trainer some anxiety, owing to soreness, which became prevalent after contesting the hurdle events at the Christmas meeting. Much will depend on his progress during the next week as to whether he will contest Takapuna engagements, though at the moment he is regarded as a doubtful starter.

Lady Ruler made an auspicious debut- as a hurdler at the Thames, and her victory was achieved in a promising manner. Calcutta was too good for her on Saturday, but she again ran an honest race and has further prospects of success in similar company. Her owner, Mr. F. L. Colbeck. had his colours carried to victory for the first time. Lady RuJer is likely to have her next race in the hurdles at Matamata.

Surella disappointed at Thames, but is to contest his engagements at the Takapuna meeting. For a colt possessing his speed his form does not seem to be in keeping with his true capabilities.

Sacconi has resumed work, following a respite, during which he was added to the list. Sacconi is a two-year-old colt by Surveyor- Adi Vunivola, and up to the time of his respite had been working well and impressed by his style of galloping. W. H. Patterson intends to get him ready for autumn two-year-old racing, and before the season closes lie should be found acquitting himself creditably.

High Quality has gone along nicely since racing at the Christmas meeting and is in excellent condition. The Ace gelding i* i " l ue . to make his next app'aranee among , the jumpers at the Takapuna meeting this week, and a repetition of his Ellersli" .form should make him a force to b- ■ reckoned with. I W. Cathro received iron, th- yculiu-a-Ko a nice cliouai'it colt by Night Raid—

Palestrina, thus a half-brother to Privy Seal. The newcomer was purchased by ilr. J. Corbett, owner of Dark Marble.

Hunting Song Yearling

Mr. F. L. Col beck, owner of Lady Ruler, purchased a yeanling colt by Hunting Song —Nordica at the yearling sales, and he arrives this week to join K. Pope's stable.

Bachelor King looks well and should race accordingly this- week, though lie has a difficult task with il.fi, and will find it hard to concede weight to some improving youngsters engaged. He is a very honest colt, who should not be left out oi' calculations, with all his weight.

i\ Smith has the Tea Tray—Maniapoto mare filly working nicely, and she may make her debut among the juveniles at the Takapuna meeting. Te Poto is the name claimed for her, and she is expected to develop into a useful sort when she has had experience.

Nun Nicer is being along more seriously in his work and is now acquiring racing condition. Since he last raced he has been operated on for respiratory trouble, and although he still makes a noise he does not appear in any way distressed after galloping.

Disturbed and High Sea, who are at present on the easy list, may not be seen out again for some time. Both colts during their respite, have been added to the list.

Valamito has made progress towards recovery from his soreness and is among the regular workers, though he is being restricted to sow pacing until a complete recovery is made.

Although he has raced very little, F. Smith is experiencing difficulty in getting Kbb and Flow in the condition desired. He is apparently a delicate doer, but has been working well, nevertheless, and may show- up among the maidens this week.

Natal is to make his debut on Friday, and as he has acquitted himself well in recent gallops he is not likely to disgrace himself. Natal is a big two-year-old by Vaals- Big Bertha, and will sport the colours of Mr. L. Dunn.

Palustre. scored very' convincingly in the Farewell Handicap on Saturday. There is no doubt about her speed, and she should

not be hard to place to advantage in the future. She is engaged in the Wynyard Plate and the-hack sprint on Saturday, and she is likely to go well in cither of these events, with preference for the latter event.
