TIMARU-WAIMATE.
FIVE POSITIVE CASES. DEFINITELY INFECTED AREA. (By Telegraph.—■l'resg Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Following a flying visit to South Canterbury yesterday,* when he conferred with the health authorities at Timaru and Waimate, the medical officer for the Canterbury and Westland district, Dr. Telford, said tG-day that Timaru - Waimate could be definitely regarded as an infected area. • There had been five positive cases of infantile paralysis notified in the district. Two children were in the Waimate Hospital, one from Morven and the other from Waiho Forks. Ojie child was sent back to Dunein from Timaru, and there were two positive cases in the Timaru Hospital, one being a suspected case of a girl, agfed eight years, which now diagnosed as positive. Infection in this area was of a mild form, Dr. Telford added, but he emphasised that all precautions should be strictly observed. Parents and guardians should as far as possible avoid contact with Timaru people. There was a possibility of stricter regulations being invoked c.s far as this district was concerned.
