Manawatu retained tbe Hawke Cricket Cup by an innings and 31 runs in the second challenge match of the season. Manawatu. who were In a comfortable, but not an unassailable, position with an overnight score of 114 for eight yesterday, carried the total to 235. This was almost wholly due to the magnificent stand, of 110. for the ninth wicket by Pritchard (To) and Pollitt (30). Southland fought hard to avoid an Inningß defeat, but found the bowling too solid and were dismissed for 142 (Wurburton 20. Anderson 25. L'ttley 2-J).
