INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
Recently an epidemic of infantile naralvsis occurred in a town in Germany. In balf "of the cases the disease was localised in the pontine region of the brain. These patients had symptoms suggestive of meningitis. In Germany abortive cases have been reco<nrscd. These occur usually in the late summer or autumn. Here also" there is almost alwavs a stage closely resemblin? meninsitis. These abortive cases of infantile paralysis may be mistakes for affections of the resniratory or alimentary tract. It would be interesting to know if the Dunedin cases showed a hhrh'percentage of pontine localisation of the disease, as occurred in Germany. .1. P. HASTINGS.
