RACEGOERS AND RAIN.
Isn't it about time racing and trotting clubs provided some shelter for their patrons —I am writing on behalf of those who can only afford to pay 1/6 and who are on the outer — when racing is held on wet days. For those ibit to pay there are fine stands, but for the ovtside public there is nothing at ail except the shelter afforded by the liquor booth, and everybody cannot, or does not want to, go into the booth. I noticed a section of the crowd yesterday voicing a protest after the Derby as some considered that Martara wis missed by the judge in the close firrsh. I i !iink it would be more to the point if soeie irotest v«*e made agartst the lack of shelter provided for the. outside, public on wet days. I am sure that if a deputation waited on both the Auckland Racing Club and Auckland Trotting Club committees the matter would be given favourable consideration. When you realise that from every £1 betted on the totalisator the clubs deduct 3/6 (exclusive of fractions), those who pay should not be afraid to ask. The remarks above also apply equallv to the Avondale Jockey Club. SOAKING WET.
