NEARLY OVER!
MOTORISTS ON EMBANKMENT.
' TOOK THE WRONG TURNING
I Two ntrangers to Auckland, travelling ! by car to Whangarei, had a fright when ; they took the wrong turning on their way to" the Devonport vehicular ferry on Thursday evening, about 7 o'clock. The driver, Mr. L. Wrack, turned off the Tamaki Drive into the first road past the power station, a road that leads straight through the reclamation and comes to a dead end on the brink of the embankment. The first thing that the driver saw ahead was the gleam of water, and though he jammed on. the brakes, the front wheels of the car went over before he could stop it. The rear wheels held, however, the undercarriage catching on the edge of the embankment. The car was later hauled back on to the roadway.
