RAIN CAUSES POSTPONEMENT. Continuous rain yesterday made the Te Arona clay cycle track soft. At a conference of all concerned it was decided to postpone the Te Aroha sports until to-day and the Morrinsville sports, to have been held to-day. until next Saturday. A feature of the meetings will be the appearance of the Australian cyclists and the vounc French rider, M. Russ. Rain also caused a postponement of the Whatawhata sports, as well as Port Waikato and Kaiana meetings, all of which were scheduled for yesterday. OTHER COUNTRY MEETINGS. ——— * A sports meeting will be held at Pukekawa, Tuakau, on January 30. The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, has donated a cup for the open 150 yards race, and Mr. 11. H. Chapman has promised the Opuatia Cup for the open 440 yards event. Entries for these two races and three other open events on the programme, 220 yards, 880 yards and one mile, will close with the secretary, Mr. J. R. McArthur, Tuakau, on January 23. The mounted events, which on this occasion include a competition for child riders over hurdles, are post entry. Mounted competitors are well catered for on the programme for the seventeenth annual sports meeting at Glenmurray, Waikato, to be held on January 16. The principal event is an open hunter competition for a silver cup and a purse of £16. A polo pony test also carries with It a cup, besides £4 13/ in other prizes. Other mounted competition? included are maiden hunter events, a novelty gallop, a flag race bending, and tilting at the ring. There is' a motor event, while the obstacle race on foot, a ladies' race, and children's races cater for runners. The sports are being held on Mr. K. L. Caldwell's grounds. Post entries are being accepted for all the events.
