ENGLISH CONTEMPT.
" Australia Still Down Under." I (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON", January 1. "Feeble Australia" and "Australia's deplorable batting" are examples of the posters which the London evening papers hall the collapse of the Australians in the first innings at Melbourne. H. A. Carson, in the "Evening News," nays: "The batting was some of the worst ever witnessed in a match of euch importance. The Australians in attempting perfection scarcely achieved mediocrity." The "Evening News* has a smart quip: "Australia still down under."
