OBITUARY.

MRS. F: L. SANDERS. The death occurred last week of Mrs. F. L. Sanders, a well-known resident of i Wcstown, New Plymouth, after a long j illness. She had lived at Westown for | nearly 2-> years, making an occasional visit to England. Mrs. Sanders was born in Tavistock, Devon. England, her father being Mr. W. A. Norman, 11.8. In 1887 she came to New Zealand with her parents and brothers and sister, and . they resided at Devonport, Auckland, for a time. Twenty years ago Mrs. Sanders came to New Plymouth with her sister and resided in David Street, Westown. She was a very active member of the Church of England. She was married at Auckland about 12 years ago to Mr. F. L. Sanders, who survives her. MR. J. GADSDEN. The death occurred in Melbourne last; week of Mr. J. Gadsden, founder of the! J. Gadsden Proprietary, Ltd., who was 1 well known in business circles throughout Australia and New Zealand. The story of the large organisation which he founded is one of steady expansion. Mr. Gadsden began operations in King Street, Melbourne, on a very modest scale in 1887, making calico and liessian bags. Through his enterprise and ability, larger premises were obtained,' and later the making of printed tin 1 canisters was commenced. For over 40 years the firm has held a prominent place in this industry in Australia. A factory was opened in Adelaide in 1902, and one at Fremantle in ]006. Six, years later large Sydney premises were' opened, while further additions have: been made from time to time to the j organisation in Australia. : Mr. Gadsden turned his attention to-' wards New Zealand, and factories were opened in Christchurch in 1920, Wei- 1 lington in 1922 and Auckland in 1932.
