EX-KING'S FAREWELL.
AMERICA STOPS TO LISTEN. 4 (KeceivJ 12 noon.) NEW YORK, December 13. The Mayor of New York, Mr. F. la Guardia, and Park Department officials interrupted ceremonies of formally opening a bridge on a highway to listen to ex-King Edward's broadcast. Tim Mayor applauded it at the end and exclaimed: "It was a beautiful speech." The address was repeated through gramophone records and radio stations on Friday and Saturday for the benefit of those who failed to hear it. Delegates of the first National Conference on Educational Broadcasting r„t Washington made a break in their programme to listen to ex-King Edward. Comments included sucli expressions as "a gentleman of England," "the Empire will be poorer without him, "another case of ancient and modern and youth against age," and "the beginning of the end Of the old order." A meeting of the Cabinet at Ottawa was adjourned to permit Mr. Mackenzie King and the Ministers to listen to the message. All showed emotion but confined their remarks to his successor.
