GARDEN FETE.

INFIRMARY PATIENTS' DAY,

A successful garden fete was organised by the Oneliunga branch of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary under the presidency of Mrs. W. Ivirkham, on Saturday afternoon at the, Auckland Infirmary, Epsom. The function, which was the ninth of its kind, was held to provide Christmas clieer for the inmates of the Auckland Infirmary, and there was a representative gathering of all those interested in the social welfare work of the hospital. Those representing the Hospital Board were Mrs. M. Dreaver, Rev. W. C. Wood and Mr. G. Mulholland. Mr. Mulliolland expressed the grateful appreciation of the board for the valuable work being done by the auxiliary. Other speakers were Rev. Wood (chairman of the

Hospital Board, and Mr. A. G. Osborne, M.P., who tendered a special message from Mr. Savage (Prime Minister).

Among those present were: Mr. .and Mrs. J. Park (Mayor and Mayoress of Onehunga), Dr. McGuire; Mr. D. H. Heron and Sister Bluett (matron), Mesdames M. A. Straw, A. G. Holdsworth, Yeatman, E. A. Minneas, Winks, Kelsall, T. J. G. Neil, W. Pickering, N. Sutherland, and the Misses Bower acted as hostesses during tea. The table decorations were attractively arranged by Mrs. G. E. Foote, Mrs. H. A. Ross and Mrs. ST. Sutherland. The catering was under the supervision of Mrs. H. S. Patterson (secretary). During the afternoon an entertainment organised by Mrs. Mathew (convener of the entertainment committte) was much enjoyed. This included a spectacular display of orymnastics by the pupils of the. Auckland Grammar School. Pupils of Miss Gwenneth MacNaughton gave a talented display of Irish and Highland reels. The Onehunga Citizens' Band and the Auckland Boys' Grammar School Band rendered items. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hutchison rendered musical items during tea. The afternoon concluded with a short address by Mr. L. Kirkham, president, who thanked all those who had contributed to the success of the function. Mr. Chilcott replied on behalf of the inmates.
