WHEAT INQUIRY.
FIRST SITTING HELD. —a (By Telegraph.—i'ress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The first meeting was held to-day of the Wheat Cost Investigation Committee. Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., is chairman of the committee, and associated with him ar«S Dr. Weston, of Lincoln College, Mr. L. J. Schmitt, of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Mr. 11. Mcpherson, Mr. A. Grant, Mr. H. Worrall, Mr. C. S. gapsford and Mr. D. O. Williams. Evidence will be heard at Oamaru, Waimate, Timaru. Ashburton and Christchurch, aim being to get the available information ffom all areas where wheat is grown. Sittings (will not be open to the Press,' and all evidence will be treated as confidential. Accountants and solicitors will be allowed to appear to assist witnesses if it is so desired. The committee will also visit farms and may hear evidence there. The 'committee's desire is to obtain all the information possible on what it costs to grow wheat in New Zealand. At the conclusion of its sittings the committee will submit a report to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, who is chairman of the "Wheat Committee of New Zealand.
