FEAR OF THE FUTURE.

In your issue of November 19 was an article by Mr. E. J. Howard, M.P., headed "Fear of Future." It gave me very much pleasure, because it touched the core of the world's troubles. We fear we will have another war—that, at present, -is the predominant fear. That fear causes the Governments of the world to find money ad lib to provide means for the destruction of human life, while the same Governments are demanding that we keep the cradles full —increase the population—as we may be short of cannonfodder by the time we have manufactured more armaments. For very fear that some dreadful thing should happen we do just such things that react on the world and keep nations and peoples flying at each others throats. We need more of such stuff from the pen of Mr. Howard. (I do not know the gentleman.) I read all his contributions to your paper with the keenest interest and this last one, "Fear of Future," drew me to write a word to the writer and thank liim for finding matter for your paper that is instructive, which gives one food for thought. In trying to do away with fear one must go bac|< to the beginning of time. Yet we can see this bugbear in our daily surroundings. Do away with fear, we'd have no war. Do away with fear, we'd have no sick or poor. LINDSAY COOKE.
