THE CRUISER ACHILLES.
SPEED TRIAL TO-MORROW.

NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. j With her marines and sailors at attention on her decks, and with her band playing a lively tune, H.M.5.,: Achilles siid away from the wharf this morning and headed for Auckland. Several° hundred residents were on the wharf to see the cruiser depart. On her passage to Auckland, the Achilles will undergo her first speed test since her arrival in New Zealand waters. A speed trial is made every three months to test the efficiency of the engine-room, and to-morrow, on the East Coast, the cruiser will develop her fully designed shaft horse-power of 72.000 for an hour. The entire ship | will be at battle stations, and torpedo ' and gunnery crews will be exercised. ,
