GAVE HIMSELF UP.
SEAMAN SENT TO GAOL. Having surrendered himself to the police Inst night, John Campbell Mackay, aged 3J, seaman, appeared in the Police Court this morning, when he pleaded guilty to a charge of deserting the motor liner Eangitata at Wellington on April 9. Sub-Inspector Fox said Mackay gave himself tip, stating that he wanted to get the matter cleared up. The Rangitata was due to arrive at Auckland from England to-morrow. , A representative of the New Zealand Shipping Company told the magistrate, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, that the company did not want Mackay back on the ship. Mackay was sentenced to one month's imprisonment.
