THEFT CHARGES
BIG SUM INVOLVED; POLICE ALLEGATIONS. SHAREBROKER !N COURT. REMAND AT CHRIST6HURCH. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Eight charges of theft involving £1918 S/6 were laid against William Wallace ■McClelland, a sharebroker, aged 52, in the Magistrate's Court this morning. On the application of Chief Detective Dunlop, McClelland was remanded until November 25. Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., was on the Bench. The chief detective said that McClelland had been sentenced already on another charge. Several of the flies in connection with the other charges had gone to Australia, while accused claimed that the money involved had been sent to firm's in Australia which he claimed had gone bankrupt. The chiel detective said tliat he would like_ to clear the whole matter up at one sitting,. The Magistrate: What is behind these charges ? The Chief Detective: 'fhe police will say the money was taken for investment in shares, which was not done. There is a total of about £2876 invol\ed. McClelland was then remanded.
