MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the board was held last night, Mr. W. T. Cox being in the chair. Main Highways.—A circular was received re classification of highways. It was stated that maintenance and construction on State highways would be wholly paid for from the Main Highways account, also that any existing contracts for construction that local bodies were committed to must be completed by such bodies, but that they would be paid in full for all work so finished. Christmas Xight' Pictures.—A request from Mr. Bates, lessee of the Manurewa I picture theatre, for permission to screen "The Ghost Goes West" on Christmas night, was granted. Subsidy 011 Water Scheme Works. —A reply received from the Department stated conditions as follows:—If full time job. with Public Works Department standard or award rates, subsidies of 45/ per man per v.-eek for married man, and 30/ for -single men, these men to be taken from the register of eligible unemployed; if works be by contract, 12 per cent subsidy on contract price, conditionally on 80 per cent of contractor's labour being recruited from the ranks of the Registered eligible unemployed. Housing Scheme and Amalgamation of Local Bodies. —It was decided that a special meeting be' held on Wednesday week for discussion and the adoption of plans in connection with the Government's schemes for the amalgamation of local bodies and housing. Mr. Edwards said that houses were at a premium in Manurewa. Water Supply Scheme. —Mr. It. P. Worley, consulting engineer to the board, tabled a detailed report of tenders for ail supplies of material required for the works. The report showed the net cost to be £18,352, including the Hume Pipe Company's price for pipes, etc. (£12.331). w Mr. Holmes' tender for reservoir (£WM)New Offices.—Mr. E. S.
