TAKAPUNA MEETING

CUP AND CHELTENHAM REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. TE RAPA FORM SHOULD BE GOOD GUIDE. The spring meeting of the Takapuw Jockey Club will open at Ellerslie nex Saturday week, and with the issue of tin weights by iir. A. Tronson interest wil quicken in the fixture. At present tin Alison Cup and the Cheltenham Handieai will claim most attention, but a good dea of light should be thrown on the proposi tion by the Waikato meeting at Te Rap.' next Saturday and Monday, for severa prominent candidates in both the events mentioned will be running there. Most of the horses were dealt with in the review of the Waikato handicaps last week, anc there is therefore no need to go into theii form at length. Mr. Tronson lias..Started his weights foi the Cup 31b higher than-Mr. W. P. Russel did in the Waikato Cup, in which there are eleven horses which also claim engage ments in the Alison Cup. Jonathan is top weight with 9.9, as against 9.6, while Scot land has gone up lib, his weight being 5.13 lie is therefore meeting Jonathan on 211 better terms. Mazir has 5.13 in the Wai kato Cup and lib less at Takapuna. He i: 41b better off compared with-Jonathan anc 21b better compared with Scotland. Koya Appellant (5.12) was not entered for the Waikato Cup. but is engaged in a sprint race there. He has not won this season but is working along all right at Ellerslie Big Hook (8.10) has 21b more in the Wai kato Cup. Jonathan has to give him 811 and Mazir lib in the latter event, while Scotland and he are oil the same mark. In the Alison Cup Jonathan has to c-oneedc him 131b. Scotland 31b and Mazir 21b. Kelly (8.5) had 21b more in the Waikato Cup but was not accepted for. He lias only had three races -this ''season, finishing second in a sprint event at Avondale, while on the concluding day of the Auckland spring meeting lie won the Liverpool Handicap, one mile, with 8.13. That was with an . 8.0 minimum, as against a 7.7 minimum in. the event under review. He gave Crooning "lb'ahd beat her by a head : and now has to give her 21b. However. Crooning has won over a mile and a mile and a quarter since then, so that Kelly does not appear-to be badly treated. King Rey (8.4) has lib less than at Te Rapa, and if at his best will take some beating He has been galloping well. Gay Talkie (8.3) has performed well this season up tc a mile and a quarter. He won two races at the last Ellerslie fixture, one being ovei a mile, while at the Dargaville fixture lie ran two good races, being right- np iourtl in the Cup and being beaten by a head by Crooning in the President's Handicap oi the second day. These were both mile anc a quarter events, as was the W hangare. Cup, which he accounted for last Saturday week. Crooning gave him 61b when they last met, and now they are on the sams mark, as is also Munbatoon, but his forri has not been good this season. He has 411 more than at Te Rapa. . prooning has raced well this season and she should give a good account of herself. Sinking Func (8.21 lias the same weight as he has in tin Waikato Cup and he seems nicely placed while Grateful has 31b more than at 1. Rapa. Horowhenua <7.10) was beaten b; Gay Talkie in the Wliangarei Cup whei civing the latter? 31b. Now Gay Talkie lia to give him 71b, but he should beat hin again. Knight of Australia (7.10) wa second to Scotland in the King Ed wart Handicap, one mile and a quarter, a Ellerslie, and among those he beat were Jonathan, at a difference of 261b, Roy? Appellant, 181b. and Mungatoon, 81b, all n his favour, while he gave Horowhenua lib In the Dargaville Cup he was third te Mazir and Silver Brier with 7.8, the for mer giving him 91b, while he gave Gay Talkie and Horowhenua alb each. -Nov Jonathan gives him 271b, Rb.val Appellanl 161b, Mungatoon and Gay Talkie while Horowhenua is on the same mark. Tybalt (7.9) showed winning form at Whangare over a mile and should be improved. 01 the others, Tradesman (7.8) and Con Fuocc (7.7) seem the best. Some who may be fancied are: Mazir, King Rey, Kelly, Gay Talkie, Grateful, Sinking Fund and Jona than. The Sprint. In the Cheltenham Handicap Namaku (9.11) has 21b less than she has in the Cambridge Handicap at Waikato. She Has not raced for some ,time, but is very speedy. Tray 8it.(8./3) won the Ruawa: Handicap, the open sprint; on the seconc day of the Dargaville 'meeting- with 8.10 but the fkld was not y d high-class one However, he has plenty of\ pace. -'Roya Appellant (8.10) is engaged in "tile Cup af well as this race, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in the sprint at Te Rapa. ImpastS (8.6) has 41b less than a 1 Te Rapa, but he has no recent form. JHe is set to give Royal Appellant lib there and at the Takapuna meeting Royal Appel lant has to give him 41b. Star Artist (8.5 ; lias been awarded 8.0 at Te Rapa, and judging by her victory at Avondale recently, wheif she was handicapped jil 7.13, she should be one of the hardest tc beat at Te Rapa, as well as in this race Adalene and Mungacre are on the same mark as Star Artist, and these two should go well. Rerepai (8.3J has not raced for a long time, but Solaria was second to Mungacre in the Shorts Handicap at Ellerslie last month when in receipt of lib and now gets 21b from Mungacre. Symcony (7.13) was a speedy two-year-old, but has failed to get into the money this season. Tybalt (7.10) is engaged in the Cup as-well'as this.race, but if reserved is not without prospects in this event. Of the others Gay Seton 7.8). Tin Lap anel Princess Star appeal most.
