GARDEN FETE.
A garden fete was lield at the | residence of Mrs. E. J. Taylor, Handsworth," Mount Roskill, m aid o. bt. Margaret's Church, on Saturday. In declaring the fete open, Mrs. F de L. Willis spoke of the work of the Ladies Guild and wished them every success in their sale. She was presented With a bouquet of sweet peas, gerberas and maiden-hair 'fern. Shortly after the opening Father Christmas arrived at the Christmas tree,, which was a source of enjoymertt "for the'children. * The stalls, which were tastefully .decorated, were set in the grounds; among the shrubs, and tennis and clock golf were -enjoyed by the young people. Although the afternoon Avas somewhat showery the church funds will benefit by about £50. Afternoon tea was served in the large .sun porch, which was r ,decorated with azaleas, Shirley poppies and pot plants.
The stall-holders, were: —Plain work stall, Mesdames Unsworth and Brand; fancy, Mesdames Randrup and Hudson; cakes, Mesdames Bates, WaHingford, Giles, Judd and Miss Keane; produce, Mesdames Leahy'and Howe and Miss Leahy; Christmas tree, Mesdames Cromwell and Coyle; sweets, Misses Taylor, Viclcerjj, King and' Gentles; ice cream, Messrs. Wiifred and, Hugh Cromwell; afternoon tea. Mesdames Colby, Clark, White, Franklin, Tills, Ritchie, Misses Franklin, Hender and Gibbons.
