INTOXICATED DRIVER.
WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN. REFUSAL TO SUPPRESS NAME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday. A refusal to suppress names in such cases was indicated by Mr. J. L. Stout, SAI when convicting William Magnus Cederman, aged 51, a clerk, wbo was charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor ca. in the city on Saturday night. Defendant pleaded guilty- , The police said that defendant, when endeavouring to avoid a cyclist, mounted the footpath and knocked down a woman, who was bruised. A doctor pronounced defendant unfit to drive. Air for defendant, said it was a border-line ease and sought suppression of the name. _ a_ 0 j In refusing, the magistrate fined defendant £15 and cancelled his driving license for 12 months.
