AUCKLAND RECORD.
I PLACEMENT OFFICE. I . — f . HEADS NEW ZEALAND LIST. ' OVER 2»0 POSITIONS FOUND. With a total of '209 .permanent, casual and . temporary positions ;• tilled, • the Auckland Placement Office headed the 1 list of placements effected during the i week ended September 14 by the 22 J offices administering the State Place- | mer.t Service. i The achievement is fie wore .interesting because those for whom work I was found are representative of 34 different trades and callings, exclusive of the various cla.ises of labourers and clerks. This weekly list is a fairly reliable barometer of the widening area of industrial activity. For instance, it would seem from certain details that follow that the building industry is finding room for additional carpentcis and labourers, and that some of the allied industries also have made additions to their staffs. The list includes aerated water factory hands, commercial artists, barmen, blacksmiths, bridge builders, bushmen, cabinetmakers, cannister makers, caretakers, carpenters (17), carpet layers, clerks, coach (motor body) builders, compositors, cooks, cutters (soft goods), delivery roundsmen, motor drivers, dyers and cleaners, engineers, fitters, fitters and turners, floor layers, freezing works hands, gardeners, gum workers, hat manufacturers, joiners, labourers (six classes), leather workers, linesmen, wood machinists, mattress maker, motor mechanic, moulder, painter, plumber, pressor, printers (linotype and machine), quarry men, rabbiters, radio technician, saddlers, salesmen, storemen, tailors;, tool Sharpeners, turners (metal), upholwaiters, wool sorters and yardmen.
