WOMEN IN PATROL CAR.

SMALL-MINDED ATTITUDE ? IBy Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. - Reporting on the attitude of the Auckland Association to the suggestion that two lady members of the Palmerston North staff should be allowed to travel the Auckland district with the patrol officer, in order to become acquainted with the district and its roads, Mr. N. H. Mackie, president of the Automobile Association (Manawatu), last night expressed surprise at what he termed "unnecessary publicity." Mr. Mackie said that in a number of association offices lady members of the staffs were dispensing road information to association> members, and the tour was suggested so that those employees could do better work. If there was any likelihood of someone criticising a patrol officer for having a lady in his car the difficulty could be got over by the lady wearing a badge or some similar device. Auckland had made a mountain out of a molehill, and it must be a very small-minded individual who would take exception to the proposal.
