STRUCK BY TRAM.
ELDERLY COUPLE.
MAN KILLED—WOMAN HURT.
ACCIDENT AT THREE KINGS.
An elderly man was killed and a j woman was injured when they were knocked down by a tram on the Three Kings Road yesterday afternoon. The victims were Mr. James Given, aged 08, who lived at Pollock settlement, near Waiuku, and Miss Susan Given, aged 70, whose home is at 11, Queensway, Three Kings. Miss Given was not severely hurt, and was able to leave the casualty department of the hospital after treatment. The couple were running to catch a city-bound Three Kings tram near Kingsway when the accident happened. Both were knocked down, but Mr. Given must have received more of the impact. A telephone call summoned the St. John Ambulance and the pair were admitted to the hospital. Mr. Given died about half an lion' - later, as the result of concussion and head injuries. Mr. Given had been farming in Pollock settlement all his life. He had taken an active interest in the affairs of the district and had served for some time on the local town board. He was spending a holiday in Auckland with his sister.
