Campbell, who had taken a leading part in the arrangements for a separate committee. In a letter she estimated necessary expenditure in the ,first year of apju'oximately £90, and stated the ideal way of financing the work was by 250 annual subscribers at a minimum of 5/. Already there

were 10 subscribers in Birkenhead and 10 in Birkdale. Why a separate committee was wanted was explained by Mis. L. T. Hayman. The Auckland Centre was desirous of the whole of the North Shore areas combining as a two-nurse sub-branch of Auckland, in which ease a committee at Birkenhead would be necessary. Apart from that, however, Birkenhead had till now been under obligation to the Nortlicote committee and the Auckland Centre. A Plunket room should be established at Birkenhead, where at first the nurse could attend in the afternoon once weekly, visiting homes where necessary in the morning. The proposal for a North Shore sub-branch would be decided before the end of the financial year in March by the committees concerned, including Birkenhead, which would be a sub-committee of Auckland Centre it'j the scheme was not entertained. The j Plunket nurse is Miss Joan Carinichael. Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs. Mills for presiding, to Mrs. E. B. (iilfillan. for undertaking the secretarial duties for the inaugural meeting, and to the Birkenhead R.S.A. for the free use of the hall. Appreciation was expressed at the decision of the Nortlicote committee to donate half the proceeds of the bridge evening at the King's Theatre on November 3 to the Birkenhead committee. At a meeting of the committee later At a meeting of the committee later, Mrs. W. B. Darlow presiding, it was decided to hold regular meetings on the first Monday in each month, and the Borough Council is to be asked for the use of a room for the purpose in the Borough Chambers. Inquiries are to be made before the next meeting as to the most suitable location for the Plunket room.
