ROPE WORKERS
CONCILIATION MEETING.
With the exception of certain wage reductions and the number of holidays, nil the issues in the new award asked for by the Auckland Rope and Twine Workers' Union were agreed upon at a Conciliation Council meeting yesterday, presided over by the commissioner, Mr. R. E. Price. The employers, Donagliy's Rope and Twine Company, Limited, were represented by Messrs. W. IS. Anderson and W. Edmunds and the employees by Messrs. T. Stanley, B. Baker, W. Rosenberg and Miss E. Le Leu. A 40-hour week of five day's was agreed to by the employers. The employees intimated that they were prepared to accept the rates offered by the firm, if they were paid 011 a weekly basis, instead of by the hour, as hitherto, and asked that January 2 and Anniversary Day be added to the eight holidays previously granted. Mr. Anderson stated that the company had always paid hourly rates and would be reluctant to alter that system, nor were they willing to agree to two more holidays. When the proceedings were adjourned for further negotiations, each party thanked the other for its conciliatory attitude.
