ELLERSLIE CROQUET.

CARD AFTERNOON. A card atternoon was held at John Court's tearooms recently by the Ellerslie Croquet Club as a wind-up for the club's card season, bridge and 500 being played. The prizewinners were: Bridge, highest score, Mrs. N. Speary; hidden number, Mrs. E. J. Rougliton; 500, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. J. Portor. Amono- those present were: Mrs. A. J. McKenzie and H. 1 Thompson. f HALLYBURTON JOHNSTONE CLUB. | The official opening of the Hallyburton Johnstone Croquet Club was held last week, and Mrs. Dyson, president, welcomed the visitors and members of the tennis and bowling clubs. Mrs. McGill spoke on behalf of the centre and wished the club a successful season and was then called upon to play the first ball &nd declare the greens open for the 1030-7 season. At the conclusion of this ceremony she was the recipient of a beautiful bouquet, one also being presented to Mrs. Dyson. Play was indulged in for a short time, but had to be abandoned owing to the inclement state of the weather, when the visitors adjourned to tho pavilion where a delightful afternoon tea was served. The rest of the afternoon was spent in a card tournament, the winners being Mrs. Glover 1, Mrs. Oliver 2. MANGERE EAST. The Mangere East Croquet Club held the official opening of the lawns on J Saturday, there being a good attendance of visitors and members. Mrs. W. W. | Massey, president of the club, welcomed the visitors and called upon Mrs. S. W. H»use to play the first ball. The executive of Auckland Croquet Association was represented by Mesdames Clarke and Badeley-Hay ward, Misses Bennett, Olphert, and Robertson. The following clubs were represented: United, Rocky Nook, Otaliuhu, Hillsboro, Howick, Papatoetoe, Mount : Eden, Remuera, Ellerslie, Takapuna and Carlton. During the afternoon progressive croquet was played, the winners being: Mrs. Gillies (A), Mrs. Kayes (B), Mrs. Hodgson and Mrs. Taylor (consolation). I NORTH SHORE. The lawns' of the North Shore Croquet Club were officially opened by the Mayor, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, on Saturday. The members, honorary members and guests were welcomed by the president, Mrs. T. M. Macdonald. The first ball was played by one of the oldest members of the club, Mrs. A. H. Blackburn. The lawns and gardens were in perfect condition and the pavilion was tastefully decorated with spring flowers in the club's colours. 1

Progressive croquet was played, the trophies being won as follows: —Highest A, Mrs. F. P. Flinn; highest B, Mrs. G. S. Ardley; consolation A, Mrs. Hughes; consolation B, Mrs. A. Griffith. Mrs. C. Webber, representing .the association, thanked the club , on behalf of the visitors for the pleasant afternoon.
