AWATEA'S RECORD TRIP.
SYDNEY TO WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The liner Awatea, which arrived at Wellington to-day on her first voyage from Sydney, lowered the Monowai s record, established in 1933, by a substantial margin. The Awatea's time from port to port was two days 12 hours 33 minutes, compared with the Monowai's two days 15 hours 10 minutes. Heavy weather was experienced soon after- the Awatea left Sydney, and a heavy swell was experienced throughout the trip. The Awatea is not yet properly run in, and the trip was made at an average speed of 20.45 knots. Her designed service speed is 23 knots.
