METHODIST CHURCH.
AUCKLAND EAST CIRCUIT.
STIPEND CUTS RESTORED. The Rev. E. D. Patcliett presided over an attendance of 51 officials of the Auckland East Methodist circuit, held at Reinucra Church last evening. Membership returns showed a total of 859, a decrease of nine 011 the year. The balance-sheet showed a small credit 011 the quarter's working—a most satisfactory state of affairs. The meeting unanimously adopted the recommendation of a special committee to restore the recent "cuts" in minister's stipends, and to make the payment retrospective to July 1. Applications from Epsom and Remuera trusts to borrow £500 in each instance from the Church Building and Loan Fund l'or the extinction of trust debts, were approved. Reports 011 young people's work were fairly satisfactory, though the opinion was expressed that the advent of the 40-hour week would probably make for reduced attendance at Sunday schools and Bible classes. One speaker described the position as "a baffling problem," which was being felt by all church denominations. Unanimous invitations were extended to the present ministers to remain another year-in the circuit. . The present ministers are: —Rev. E. D. Patchett, superintendent minister at Epsom, seventh year; Rev. F. J. Parker, Mount Eden, fifth year; Rev. Win. Walker, Remuera, third year. The services of all three ministers were eulogised by several speakers. The invitations were cordially accepted. Messrs. W. Anibury, T. Clark. A. Williams, and C. K. Wigglesworth were appointed to represent the circuit at the forthcoming Aucklfind Synod, with Messrs. E. R. Warburton. T. White and Rudd as substitutes.
