SALESMAN'S REGRET.

OFFENCE IN CITY SHOP.

Arrested 011 October 7 on a charge of stealing two jars of hair oil, two jars of brilliautine, a safety razor and a packet of cigarettes, of a total value of £1 1/, tlie property of a city store, Allen Charles McKay, 24, salesman, appeared in the Police Court this morning and pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said that at 4.45 p.m. on October 7 a floorwalker in a city store saw McKay pick up several articles and- put them in his pocket. As ho did not pay for them lie was taken into the manager's office where he expressed his regret and offered to pay for tlie goods. Accused was a single man. On behalf of accused, Mr. Bouisson said 110 was a good salesman, and his employer was prepared to take him back again. On i October 7 McKay had been drinking and did not remember what had occurred in the shop. He was extremely sorry for what had occurred. This was the first time McKay had been in trouble. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., imposed a fine of £3, or one month's imprisonment.
