RAILWAY TRADESMEN.
CONEERENCE IN PROGRESS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The biennial conference of the Railway Tradesmen's Association was opened by Mr. G. H. Mackley, general manager of railways, who expressed appreciation of the co-operation and good will displayed by the officers in negotiations with respect to the introduction of a 40-hour week. The Minister of Railways, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who visited the conference, stated that next year the Government intended introducing a national superannuation scheme which would be much in advance of anything of that nature attempted in any part of the world. Mr. Sullivan said he was endeavouring to see that the railways were supplied with the best posible equipment and had the best possible conditions, thereby enabling the service to be given its full and economic position in the Dominion.
