WIG AND GOWN.

WOMAN BARRISTER. APPEARANCE IN COURT. FIRST TIME IN AUCKLAND. The honour of being the first woman barrister to appear with wig and gown as counsel at the Auckland Supreme Court goes to Miss Marion Hollway. Miss Holl vay is attached to the .firm of Thorn, Thorn, White and Clark-Walker. She was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court 011 March 30, 1933. The action in which Miss Holloway appeared before Mr. Justice Fair to-day •was connected with two wills made by j Mrs. Ellen Hastings Sloan, the amount of the estate being sworn for probate purposes at not more than £200. The deceased had made two wills, the first on February. 19, 1935, when she was a patient in the Auckland Hospital, and in that will she left everything to her son, William D. Sloan. Deceased left the hospital on March 11 of last year, and nine days later, when residing with a daughter in Sandringhain, a second will was drawn up and signed. In her second will the deceased converted a J loan of £100 which she had made to another son, James Hastings Sloan, in 1925, into a gift. All order nisi granting probate on the first of the two wills had been made, and the action before the Court to-day was brought l>y James Hastings Sloan, seeking the Court to have the second will accepted. This was opposed by William Desmond Sloan, 011 the ground that at the time she made her second will she was not in a condition fully to understand the full rature of what she was doing, also that she was unduly influenced in making that will. Miss Hollway appeared for James Hastings Sloan, and Mr. C. Clarke for William Desmond Sloan. The Court granted Mr. Clarke permission to cross-examine a number of peoplo concerning affadavits they had sworn. (Proceeding.)
