SETTLEMENT HOPES.
SINO-JAPANESE DISPUTE. (Received 12.30 p.m.) NANKING, October 5. Mr. Kuwashima, special envoy from Tokyo, has arrived with secret instructions to the Japanese Ambassador, Mr. Kawagoe. Marshal Chiang Kai-shek will consult with the Executive Council tomorrow and then open discussions with Mr. Kawagoe, which, it is hoped, will lead to settlement of the Sino-Japanese dispute.
