A.J.C. MEETING. SUCCESS OF GAY BLONDE. YOUNG CRUSADER TAKES METROPOLITAN. SYDNEY, October 5. The Australian Jockey Club's spring meeting was continued at Randwick today, when the weather was fine and cool. Tile attendance was excellent, and fast times indicated that the track was in splendid condition. The Veilmond colt Rodborough brilliantly won the Breeders' Plate. After beginning smartly he drew away at the half-mile, "and ran on untroubled to pass the judge with three lengths to spare. Young Crusader, who , was lightly weighted, made a one-horse race of the Metropolitan Handicap. Dashing to the front at the rise of the barrier, he quickly established a lead of six lengths and ran home five lengths ahead of Silver Standard. Gay Blonde gave a grand performance in the Squatter's Handicap. Passing tha half-mile, she was last, but she unwound a brilliant r£m in the straight, which carried her to victory with three lengths to spare. Apart from her effort the New Zealand horses throughout the day performed poorly. The jockey W. Cook, who lost the Epsom Handicap ,on Gay Lover on a protest, received a. measure of compensation in riding three winners to-day. M. McCarten, who was held responsible for interference with Tonga in the Shorts Handicap, was suspended from riding for one month. Sporting Blood gave an mglorious display, finishing tenth. Silver Ring's eleventh hour withdrawal from the Metropolitan was due to his connections not being enamoured with his chance "with 9.9. He is being reserved for weight-for-age races.
