FALSE DECLARATIONS.
SUSTENANCE OBTAINED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, Monday. Leonard Isitt Whiteside, aged 00, today admitted making three false declarations of his earnings for the purpose of obtaining sustenance. In one instance he earned £5 14/11 privately and received £1 12/ sustenance. Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., said that he had discovered that there was a good deal of abuse, of the sustenance system. He considered the only proper way to deal with offenders was to make it unprofitable for them to make false declarations; -• On each charge defendant Mas fined £2 t with costs 10/.
