MOTORIST IN TROUBLE.
DROVE WHEN INTOXICATED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE AROIIA, Monday. At the Magistrate's Court, before Messrs. R. Sprague and Hepburn, J.P.'s, this morning, E. De Lacy, a commercial traveller, was fined £15 and had his license endorsed on a charge of being intoxicated while driving a car on the Waitoa-Te Arolia highway on Friday afternoon. Constable Hinton said that defendant drove in an erratic manner and when passing through Waihou almost hit a bowser and narrowly missed a woman pedestrian. Defendant said that he had bent down to light a cigarette and that his car had swerved.
