DRAINAGE BOARD.
PROGRESS OF THE WORK. PAST YEAR'S OPERATIONS. The Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board met last evening, the Mayor of Auckland, Mr. Ernest Davis, presiding. The work during the past year was reviewed in a report by the engineer and secretary, Mr. H. H. Watkins, who said that during the year negotiations were commenced for the boundaries to be altered to include additional areas of Mount Eden and the Mount Roskill district. During the year an additional loan of £30,000 was authorised, and the money was being advanced by instalments for works under construction. The total borrowed for constructional purposes at March 31, 1035, was £555,000, and the amount actually expended at that date was £531,728. Four loans totalling £350,000 had matured and had been repaid. The amount assessed and collected from the contributory local bodies was £40,293. Mr. Watkins said that the outfall works at Orakei had been efficiently maintained,, and the records of discharge operations showed an average daily dry weather flow of 10,250,000 trillions. " Preliminary consideration was 'given to proposed new'works, including the construction of stormwater culverts in Remuera gully and the Meola Creek and Oakley Creek A comprehensive report on the drainage of the metropolitan district had been considered, and the board had secured an option for the purchase of Brown's Island. Board Members. — Messrs. J. Purtell and H. A. Anderson were welcomed as new 'members of the board and were appointed as members of the finance and legal committee. It was deckled to congratulate Mr. R. E. Ferner, who had retired from the board on his appointment to the magistracy, and to express appreciation of his services while a board member. Donations.—A grant of £5 5/ was made to the Mayor of Auckland's fund for crippled children and a similar donation was made to the St. John Ambulance Association
